Mitchell Starc has announced his retirement from T20 Internationals after the World Cup that was hosted India and Sri Lanka six months prior in order to focus on advancing his career in cricket’s Test and One-Day formats.

Starc, who recently turned 35, is the country’s most recognizable left-arm T20 cricketer, finishing his career with 79 wickets from 65 matches, also, he is second to his spin partner, Adam Zampa, in Australia’s all-time T20 wickets list.

In a statement from Cricket Australia, he is quoted saying: “Test cricket remains and has always been my number one focus. "

“Playing T20 matches for Australia has been a great experience. I particularly loved the 2021 World Cup, not only because we won but because of the incredible team that was formed and the fun we all had.

“I believe in my case, with the Indian Test tour, the Ashes, and the 2027 ODI World Cup, this is the best strategy for me to optimize my performance to continue to stay fresh and fit for these objectives,” he stated.

“It also provides the bowling group with the opportunity to fine-tune for the T20 World Cup during the games in this tournament."

On Tuesday, Australia’s T20I squad announced for the upcoming series against New Zealand, and Starc was absent.

According to chairman of selectors George Bailey, the latter part of Starc’s career has had considerable спад during which, as planned, he primarily focused on tests and One-Day Internationals. Bailey went on to point out the fact that Starc has been focusing on his other variety of 4 and 5-day games.
